About Us
At Sol Spirit Yoga & Wellness, our community-focused studio in Jersey City Heights is dedicated to creating a positive and safe space for everyBODY — from beginners to seasoned yogis alike. Our Sol Purpose is to foster an inclusive environment where all can practice with confidence and comfort while moving at their own pace. While we offer non-heated yoga classes, our studio is always filled with warmth and love. From the moment you step into our space, you are welcomed with a friendly smile from the instructor guiding your class.
Sol Spirit is a boutique-style studio, without a front desk and with smaller class sizes so we can truly cater to each individual’s needs. Our group classes give us the opportunity to build real relationships — we know our students by name, and we function more like a small family than a large studio. This intimate, community-centered approach is the heart of who we are.
As a proud Latina and woman-owned business, we champion diversity and empowerment within our community. We are honored to have been voted Best Yoga Studio in Jersey City three years in a row, and in 2023 we were formally recognized with a Resolution by the Town of Jersey City for our community service and impact.
Beyond being a yoga and wellness space, we are deeply committed to service. We actively raise awareness and funds for causes close to our hearts, including animals in need, women’s rights, immigration rights, natural disaster relief, and other humanitarian efforts. In 2025 alone, together with our community, we raised and donated over $15,000 across multiple charitable initiatives — a testament to the collective generosity and compassion of the Sol Spirit family.
Our offerings are unique, including being the only yoga studio in the NJ/NYC area offering Yoga for Anxiety, incorporating techniques such as EFT tapping (Emotional Freedom Techniques) to help soothe and regulate the nervous system.
We further emphasize holistic wellness through Meditation, Healing Circles, Reiki Sound Baths, Breathwork Workshops, and Continuing Education Teacher Trainings.
At Sol Spirit, our community-centric approach fosters long-lasting connections and promotes joy, self-love, and personal growth. Committed to inclusivity, accessibility, and service, we strive to support every individual’s journey toward well-being while making a meaningful impact beyond our studio walls.
About the Owner
Elizabeth Barrera’s journey into healing and spiritual growth began in the aftermath of profound personal upheaval. In 2019, she experienced what she calls her “dark night of the soul.” In the span of one week, she finalized a painful divorce and lost her job after more than a decade in the corporate fashion industry. The stability she had known—her career, her home, and her family life—crumbled all at once, leaving her devastated, anxious, and unsure of who she was without it all.
For the first time in her life, Elizabeth found herself unable to push through or “hold it all together.” Struggling with depression, panic attacks, and an overwhelming sense of emptiness, she turned inward. Desperate for relief and clarity, she began practicing yoga more seriously, meditating daily, and diving deep into energy healing. What began as a search for survival became a profound spiritual awakening.
In 2020, she became a certified yoga teacher—marking a turning point in her life and the beginning of her true path. Elizabeth realized that healing wasn’t about returning to who she had been, but about becoming who she was always meant to be. She began studying the mind-body connection, energy medicine, and the spiritual science of yoga, discovering tools that helped her regulate her nervous system, calm her mind, and reconnect with her inner light.
Fueled by a deep desire to help others find their own grounding and inner peace, Elizabeth opened Sol Spirit Yoga & Wellness in 2021. Her mission is to create a supportive space where people can explore self-discovery, healing, and transformation through the practices that changed her life.
Elizabeth believes that healing begins within—and that even in our darkest moments, we are being called home to ourselves.
Elizabeth is a proud mother to a wise and wonderful 10-year-old and a furry chocolate lab, Bean. She enjoys cooking, yoga, and spending time with her community, who have become her family. When she’s not teaching, Elizabeth loves spending time with her loved ones and enjoys the simple joys of life—whether it’s tending to her plants, hiking through nature, or soaking up the sun. These are the things that bring her peace and vitality, grounding her in her journey of healing and connection.
